Arsenio Garcia Monsalve

Born in Portoviejo, Ecuador in November 1971. Arsenio García Monsalve started his training as a painter with his mother Mariela, herself an accomplished artist. In his teens, he studied ceramics with Victoria Ceballos in Cuenca Ecuador.

At the age of 17, he attended Kurnai College, Australia, where he studied drawing, painting, engraving, ceramics and sculpture. The following year, he was invited to attend the Laboratorio de Formas de Galicia in Sargadelos, Spain, where his work now stands as part of their permanent collection. At the same time, he also studied graphic design and photography at Pablo Picasso School in La Coruña, Spain.

After completing his degree in Industrial Design at Escuela Experimental de Diseño in Madrid Spain, García Monsalve was a finalist in both Product Design and painting competitions in Spain and in Ecuador. In 1994 his paintings represented Ecuador in a Latin American collective held in Madrid.

That same year, he enrolled in the Product Design program at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. Here he started exploring new media: from 3D modeling, to motion graphics and illustration.

His professional career as a Product Designer has taken him to such prestigious firms as Donald Chadwick and Associates, The Rockwell Group, Smart Design, and Arnell Group’s Innovation Lab in New York. He has worked for clients such as Herman Miller, Knoll, OXO, Hewlett Packard, Coca Cola, and McDonald’s. His designs have won countless awards like IDSA Gold Award and ID Magazine and can be found in places like The MOMA design store. His work has been published in periodicals as diverse as Popular Mechanics, Times Magazine and Graphis.In addition to his work in the design field, García Monsalve continues to produce and show his artwork. His work has been featured in furniture shows in New York, Los Angeles and Paris as well as events like Firstop Brooklyn and Design Update and 2007 Bienal Internacional de Cuenca. In 2005 he created animation for Logo, an MTV cable channel.

García Monsalve currently lives and works in New York.
